As you've probably guessed by now, my name is John Carroll. I am a freelance photographer living and working in the City of Glasgow, Scotland.  I have nearly 20 years experience of landscape, wedding and portrait photography. When I'm not shooting weddings I'm usually to be found somewhere in the Scottish Highlands shooting stock images of Scotland. I have sold images for use as calendars, postcards, cover shots in  various books and magazines. I have also had my work published in most of the UK's photographic magazines.

As I said before, I love to photograph Loch Lomond, The Trossachs, Rannoch Moor and Glencoe, but I'll just as quickly grab my camera and tripod and go for a wander round my local city, Glasgow. I usually find myself down by the River Clyde, an area which has been totally transformed over the years.

I took up photography in 1987 and quickly became hooked on it. In 1993 I decided to work towards a Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) and achieved this on 22nd April 1993. I then worked towards the 'Credit' of The Photographic Alliance Of Great Britain (PAGB) and achieved this on 13th April 1996. To find out more about RPS distinctions check out the RPS web site at www.rps.org/  or for more info on the PAGB check out Photographic Alliance Of Great Britain . I was awarded Licentiateship's from both the British Professional Photographers Assoc. and The Society Of Wedding & Portrait Photographers in 2003.  I was also awarded a Licentiateship from the Master Photographers Association in 2006. After many years using Minolta equipment I decided to go down the digital route. And the camera that finally persuaded me?  The Canon EOS 10D

Equipment Update: Having become firmly established as a digital photographer, during 2004 I upgraded to the Canon EOS 20D and Canon EOS 1D MkII. I have to say I don't miss film one bit! The EOS 1D MkII is a fantastic camera to work with.

Equipment Update 2006: I'm now using the full frame Canon EOS 5D digital SLR. Images from it so far are excellent with virtually no noise right up to 1600 iso.

Equipment Update 2008: After using Canon digital cameras for 4 years I've made the switch to Nikon!.......And the camera that made me switch? the new Nikon D3. Keep an eye on my gallery pages for images from my D3!

Current gear as of 2009: Nikon D3 and Nikon D700 bodies plus Nikon lens - 14-24mm 2.8, 24-70mm 2.8, 70-200mm f4.0 and a 50mm f1.8 - Other essential gear for landscape work is a solid tripod, I use a Manfrotto carbon fibre model.
